14/03/2010 by bill.
The cold winter we have experienced means that many consumers will get a nasty shock when their quarterly gas and electricity bills arrive.
Most of the major energy suppliers have recently cut their gas tariffs but many of their customers could still find a better deal by switching to a different supplier. The quickest way is to ensure you are on the cheapest deal by comparing all the deals available and switching to an online dual fuel tariff which many suppliers offer. Typical savings are £200-400 a year.

Boiler scrappage scheme - Switching from a G-rated to an A-rated boiler
05/01/2010 by bill.
The UK Government is offering up to 125,000 households £400 towards the cost of upgrading their boiler (if G-rated or equivalent or worse) to a high efficiency A-rated one or a renewable heating technology.
The scheme is open to 125,000 householders in England living in an owned or privately rented home.
Please note:
i) If you are a householder (including tenants) under 60 you can only apply for the scheme if the boiler you are scrapping is in working order and is the main boiler used to heat the home.
ii) If you are a householder (including tenants)and 60 or over you can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler you are scrapping is in working order. However, it still needs to be the main boiler used to heat the home.
Only householders and landlords who privately own and rent dwellings are eligible to apply for a voucher. Boiler installers and manufacturers, local authority registered social landlords, and housing associations are not eligible to apply.
For further details and to check whether your boiler is eligible see the Energy Saving Trust website.

ENERGY CUSTOMERS BEING OVERCHARGED MORE THAN £1.6 BILLION
25/06/2009 by bill.
New research by Consumer Focus indicates that energy customers are being overcharged by an average of £74 per household, as declining wholesale costs have not been fully passed on by suppliers.
The consumer champion estmates that current gas prices should be at least 7.4% cheaper (£60.10 annually), and electricity bills a minimum of 3.1% (£13.80) lower, if suppliers had fully passed on declining wholesale costs to consumers. The watchdog is calling on suppliers to pass on these savings immediately.
The research also suggests that additional price cuts of up to 8% (£65) for gas and 4% (£17.80) for electricity should be made by the end of the year, if market conditions do not substantially change. This, combined with an immediate cut, would save £157 on current prices by winter, which would make a huge difference to many cash-strapped consumers.
But as moneyjungle.net has often pointed out many, consumers could cut their energy bills immediately by switching to a different supplier or tariff. Anyone who has not switched supplier recently could do well to check what tariffs are available in their area. The quickest way to do this is through a comparison website such as Energy Helpline.

Cut Your Home Energy Bills Now
20/03/2009 by bill.
All of the big six energy companies have now reduced their tariffs or announced cuts to take place later this month. nPower is the latest to announce a reduction in its tariffs.
Now is probably the time to look to switch and most householders could save money by switching to an alternative supplier. This is especially so if like many people they have never switched supplier.
Anyone on a quarterly billing tariff could save by switching to monthly direct debit and anyone with different gas and electricity suppliers should compare the duel fuel tariffs that are available.
But the biggest savings may require switching to a new supplier. The easiest way to do so is via a comparison website like Energy Helpline.

Energy Companies Promoting Fixed Rate Tariffs
15/12/2008 by bill.
Several of the big energy companies are actively promoting fixed rate tariffs at a higher price than their standard tariffs but with gas and electricity tariffs expected to fall in the new year this is not really the time to fix tariffs at least in the short term. However, many householders could save money by switching suppliers now rather than waiting to see what happens in the new year. To see what tariffs are available in your area go to Energy Helpline.
Fixed Price Tariffs can offer peace of mind the the longer term. If you are looking for certainty about energy prices, British Gas has a fixed price tariff - Fixed Price 2012 - and customers can fix their energy prices at the July 30th 2008 rates. These prices will be fixed until 31st January 2012. This is the longest fixed price product of any energy supplier

03/11/2008 by bill.
Over the weekend npower Business dropped its online business prices for electricity and gas. This is welcome news for small businesses in the current economic climate.
In addition, the electricity company Electricity 4 Business (E4B) last week went into administration, leaving 40,000 small businesses with British Gas as a supplier of last resort, but meaning that they could be being supplied on a rate that is much higher than their original contract rate with E4B.
