Student Possessions Insurance
21/09/2009 by bill.
Insurance for student possessions in a must. First check your parent’s home insurance policy to see if it provides cover but even then you may feel it is worth taking out your own student possessions policy.
Endsleigh has been the UK’s number 1 student insurance provider for over 40 years and are the only company recommended by the NUS. Endsleigh offer low cost policies, with a minimum cover to £2,500 at no extra cost to the student. The policy will cover students in halls or shared accommodation off campus, even if there is no forced entry into their room. It will also offer cover for their laptops/possessions both inside and outside of their rooms.

Don’t Travel Without Insurance
11/02/2009 by bill.
It is reported that more and more of us are tempted to save money by risking travelling abroad on holiday without travel insurance.
Some travelling to Europe rely on The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) that replaced the old E111 for persons resident within the UK. E111s have not been valid since 1 January 2006.
The EHIC can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA). The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting at the same level as applies to nationals of that country. This may be lower than we are used to in the UK and you may have to pay for some treatment. It is easy to apply online at www.ehic.org.
Travel insurance is essential for all travel outside the UK including the European Union. The EHIC will only cover the costs of basic healthcare not associated costs like getting home after an accident or illness. Some things like personal possessions and luggage may be covered by your home contents insurance but health cover and repatriation in the event of serious illness or an accident are something you should never travel without.
There are basically two options - single trip or annual cover. Annual cover will generally prove cost effective if you are doing 3 or more trips a year. Cost and levels of cover vary considerably and older travellers or those with pre-existing medical conditions will find premiums are higher, but don’t be tempted to not declare medical conditions. Some insurers do not require you to declare medical conditions and instead exclude all pre-existing conditions. These may cost less but think carefully about whether a claim might be rejected if the insurance company thinks it relates to a medical condition that existed before you travel.
If you are going on a winter sports holiday make sure you have appropriate cover. Like other risky activities many policies will provide at best only limited cover.
Always shop around for the best deal but do not just opt for the cheapest option without checking that it does provide the cover you need. Try a comparison website like Quote Banana
For older travellers it may be worth looking at the travel insurance offered by SAGA, benefits include:
A choice of single trip or annual multi-trip policy
* Cover for friends and family, whatever their ages, with discounts for partners and any other couples covered by the policy
* Cover for most pre-existing medical conditions
* Medical screening programme available online
* 24 hour English-speaking travel assistance helpline included, for advice before and whilst you are away
* Optional cover for golf, winter sports and scuba-diving
* No upper age limit

Women Paying Over The Odds For Car Insurance
10/07/2008 by bill.
18.9 million women drivers in the UK face price differences on their car insurance premiums of as much as £600 a year according to new research from online car insurer, swiftcover.com.
Car insurance companies like Sheilas Wheels and Diamond target women through female-friendly advertising campaigns but when it comes down to hard cash, it seems they are not always as competitive as other insurers.
swiftcover.com, which was voted the cheapest car insurance provider in 2007 by www.moneysupermarket.com, looked at how much women would pay per year with a number of motor insurance brands online. In order to provide a balanced picture, four examples of women were chosen to show a range of ages, locations, car makes and models, occupations and driving histories.
The most that any of the women would pay was a whopping £944.45 a year with Diamond, £612.69 more expensive than the £331.76 quoted by swiftcover.com. Across all four examples, even the smallest average saving with swiftcover.com was over £145.
Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, made the following comments: “Statistically, women have been shown to cause less accidents than men, which means their premiums should be much lower but even we were surprised in the difference between what they could be charged. Our message to all drivers, both men and women, is to shop around – and certainly not to settle for your renewal premium until you have made sure it is competitive.”
